What is hypnosis?
A safe therapy to empower and help regain control of one’s life’s journey
Hypnosis can be a confusing subject. A lifetime of urban myths hasn't helped make matters any clearer. Hypnosis is a method of changing your thoughts, behaviours, and even your body ~ using the power of your mind! Hypnosis works by guiding you into a deep state of relaxation, which some people call a "trance". During this stage, the hypnotherapist begins providing the subconscious mind with positive suggestions and stories to help achieve the goals of the individual. Hypnosis is a totally natural, completely safe method of self-development and can help you achieve goals you never thought possible! Hypnosis is one of the quickest and most exciting ways to make positive, lasting change in your life.
Hypnosis doesn’t require drugs, surgery or long talk therapy yet many people have experienced the life-changing benefits of hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is a self-healing modality and anyone who is ready and willing to simply follow a hypnotherapist’s basic instructions will find themselves able to get in touch with the underlying causes of their suffering in life in a dignified, empowering way. Once the underlying emotional issues have been neutralized, the clients find themselves feeling calmer, safer and more satisfied with their lives.
Hypnotherapy refers to the therapy done while the client is in the state of hypnosis, the relaxed brain wave state. This state can allow for client self-exploration, self-healing and self-determination.
Every day research is finding increasingly more significant benefits of using hypnosis to heal and help people of all walks of life, and of all ages: from depression and emotional suffering to pain management and weight control
Some applications of hypnosis
Hypnosis and pain
Hypnosis has many applications, for example it can help with pain management and provide an alternative pathway to pain relief. Nowadays the efficacy of hypnosis is one of the well-documented alternative approach to pain reduction. The constant wear and tear of pain can undermine a person’s emotional and physical health. What is worse is that the person often develops reactions to their pain that actually increase their painful experience. This cycle becomes more powerful over time. Many of these unfortunate sufferers begin to think of their pain as normal and fear they will never be able to enjoy the lives they left behind. There are many factors that can impact the way a person experiences pain. These include stress, anticipation, arousal, deeply held beliefs, intentions and expectations. Stress, for example, will almost always intensify any pain experience. Alternatively, techniques like hypnosis lead to pain relief. Hypnotherapy works by helping the person learn how to creatively manage stress and to increase their coping and self-regulation skills. By itself, this can make the pain feel less urgent and more manageable, thus putting joy back into life! It is enlightening to know that we can actually change painful experience by altering the neuro-physio-emotional tone.
Hypnotherapy can help people with low self-esteem through imagery and suggestions reminding them that they are an equally important piece of the Universal puzzle and without them, the puzzle is simply not complete.
For many clients tired of living with the shackles of overwhelming feelings such as anger, fears, resentment, frustration, grief, shame, guilt hypnotherapy can be the answer.
NOTE THAT HYPNOTHERAPISTS DO NOT DIAGNOSE, THEREFORE IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE ISSUES THAT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION,
YOU ARE ADVISED TO CONSULT WITH YOUR MEDICAL DOCTOR.
Most informed doctors are aware of the benefits of hypnotherapy and you can discuss hypnotherapy as a treatment with them.
FAQS on Hypnosis
IS HYPNOSIS SAFE?
Absolutely. Hypnosis is a completely natural method of absorbing information. In fact, we all enter hypnotic states every day in our waking lives. You cannot be hypnotized if you don't wish to be. And you cannot be hypnotized to do anything against your will.
CAN I GET STUCK IN HYPNOSIS?
Not at all! During a hypnosis session, you're simply in a state of deep relaxation. If your hypnotherapist was to leave during a session, you would either simply wake up or drift off to sleep. No-one has ever been "stuck" in a state of terminal hypnosis!
I'M TOO INTELLIGENT TO BE HYPNOTISED...
Studies have shown that intelligent people exhibit high degrees of suggestibility. And it doesn't matter if you are sceptical of the process, the fact you are trying hypnosis shows you have an open mind. The results will prove themselves!
HOW DOES HYPNOSIS WORK?
Hypnosis works by guiding the mind into a state of deep relaxation. In this "trance" state, the critical filtering capabilities of the conscious mind are bypassed, allowing the hypnotherapist to provide suggestions direct to the subconscious mind, which is the "control panel" of the brain.
WILL HYPNOSIS WORK FOR ME?
Absolutely 100% YES! The fact that you want to give hypnosis a go is enough to diagnose that hypnosis will work for you. Hypnosis only doesn't work if the person undergoing the session doesn't want to be hypnotised.
As you may have realised, there are a lot of myths in the hypnosis world - such as that only suggestible people can be hypnotised, or that hypnosis doesn't work if the individual doesn't believe in the process. Both suggestions are incorrect. The great news is that the more times you undergo hypnosis, the more powerful each session becomes. Some self-hypnosis techniques can be learnt with depth-reinforcing suggestions to enhance the results of the treatment. In brief, anyone can be hypnotised.
WHAT DOES HYPNOSIS FEEL LIKE?
Hypnosis feels fantastic! For some people, the hypnosis session may feel as though it lasted just a few minutes. For others, it seems as though they've been in that relaxed state for hours. That's perfectly normal. Hypnosis can be so relaxing, you tend to lose track of time! It's a state of total and utter tranquillity and that's highly enjoyable!
WHAT CAN I USE HYPNOSIS FOR?
Hypnosis can be used for almost anything: changing your thoughts, behaviours, even your body. You can use hypnosis to boost your confidence, increase your memory, cure your stage fright, lose weight, stop smoking... and a whole lot more!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR HYPNOSIS TO WORK?
Hypnosis often produces dramatic results in as little as one session. However it can often take several days or a couple of weeks before the changes are integrated at a deeper level within the mind.
